Attendance

LATES

  • Students are expected to arrive to school on time and be on time for each class.
  • Students who arrive late to school on two occasions in a week will be required to serve an after school detention.
  • Flagrant offenders will receive progressively more serious consequences. Tracking these students who are late to school and holding them accountable will be the responsibility of the Main Office and the Assistant Principals.
  • Students who arrive late to class other than the first block, regularly or frequently, should be referred to an Assistant Principal.

ATTENDANCE

If a student is absent from school for a reason, it is the parents’ responsibility to phone the office prior to 9:00 am at 604.261.4285 ext. 399, and also to provide a signed note, explaining the reason for absence upon his return to school. Students will not be admitted to class following an absence without an admit slip. If a student does not have a note from his parent/guardian upon his return to school, only an Administrator is authorized to issue an admit slip.

TRUANCY

Absence without an excuse for any part of a school day is a serious breach of our Code of Conduct. A student can be deemed to be truant only by an Administrator after investigating the reason for absence. A student who is deemed to have been truant from school shall be subject to the following sanctions:

  • First Violation - Two after school detentions.
  • Second Violation - Meeting with parents, suspension (1 day).
  • Subsequent Violations - Subsequent violations could lead to a variety of consequences including further suspensions, suspension of extra-curricular privileges, counseling, withdrawal from class, withholding re-registration and expulsion.
