Athletics

The athletic program at Vancouver College is very strong throughout the school, nurturing both the elite athlete and enthusiastic participant through extramural sports. We offer a broad range of sports and have earned a reputation for excellence in football, basketball, track and field, and rowing as well as placed high in badminton, tennis, and wrestling competitions. 

Our coaches work hard to create an environment that supports and encourages high achievement in athletics and academic work within our Catholic faith community. The Athletic Department encourages students to participate in Vancouver College's various sports offerings. We strive to provide our student athletes with the resources necessary to compete to the full extent of their ability and to enjoy each aspect of their experience.

Homecoming '10

Alumni Homecoming Game -  Saturday, September 30th  at 1:30 on O’Hagan Field, defending BC Champions, Fighting Irish will battle last season’s semi-final opponent, the Mouat Hawks, coached by VC alum and Hall of Honour Inductee, Denis Kelly.

Volleyball

The VC Athletic Department launched the Senior Volleyball program in 2007. The team consists of players from Grades 10-12 with a variety of Volleyball experience from recreational to highly skilled club and beach players.

The team competes in the Vancouver Senior Boy’s League North Division which includes some of the top teams in the province. The Volleyball season is brief but very intense with the boys playing games every Tuesday and Thursday for five weeks. The boys would like to encourage the members of the VC community to come out and watch their home games and be treated to what is sure to be some very exciting Volleyball.

The soccer program at Vancouver College has been active for over 20 years. The team is made up of grade 11 and 12 students. We compete in the Vancouver Schools Premier League and play against teams that have soccer as a major sport therefore competition can be tough. The players however enjoy the challenge even though reaching the playoffs is very difficult. The sport involves 20 players and the season is relatively short but intense. As long as Vancouver College offers soccer there will always be enthusiastic soccer players willing to play.

Elementary School Sports

At Vancouver College, we encourage Elementary students to become physically active, develop their skills, and create a sense of team spirit by participating in the various sports programs offered at their level. Students may join Cross Country, Soccer, Volleyball, Basketball, Wrestling, and Track and Field.

Lettermen Association

The Lettermen's Association is comprised of athletes who have competed for Vancouver College in their chosen sport(s). This is open to students in Grades 10 - 12. They provide service for the VC Community at the Christmas Mother's tea, Finnegan Ball, Open House, Parent nights, as well as represent the school at alumni events. They also support all sports by attending games.

The letter is a very powerful symbol of commitment and excellence in a sporting activity. A Letter is awarded to student athletes in a recognized Vancouver College sport who have worked hard and achieved a level of excellence in accordance with his ability, and is worthy of reward as validated by his coach(es).

Swimming

The Vancouver College Swim Team is open to any grade 8 - 12 students who have had previous competitive swimming experiences. There is no limit on the number of participants. Each athlete trains with their respective swim clubs and for 2-3 swim meets represents Vancouver College. The following swim meets occur in the months of October and November: the St. George's Swim Meet, the Vancouver-Richmond Qualifying Swim Meet, and the Provincial Championship Swim Meet.
