In April 2011, VC students, Byron (VC '12) and Thomas ('14) Estey, competed in the Freestyle Skiing BC Championships at Whistler. The best Mogul and Slopestyle skiers from Freestyle Ski clubs around the province met on Whistler for 3 days of competition, April 3-5th . For the past few years the Estey brothers have been competing in Freestyle Skiing with the Vancouver Freestyle Ski Club, based out of Cypress Mountain. Thomas and Byron both placed 5th in BC for their age groups at the BC Championships. They train on the Olympic Mogul course at Cypress with some excellent former Olympian coaches and travel around the province to complete throughout the winter months. Over the summer they have had steady diet of skiing bumps on the glacier, then water ramp training to perfect their jumps. Last February, Byron competed in the Junior Nationals in Jasper Alberta and has recently been invited to join the BC FREESTYLE SKI TEAM!  Good luck with the upcoming season.

Reid Tucker (Grade 11) - Jason Pires profiles up-and-coming high school rugby star Reid Tucker of Vancouver College. CTV News - Reid Tucker

Christain Covington, (Grade 12), chose Rice, a leading research university in Houston, Texas, over more formidable football powers such as Arizona State when it came to declaring his intentions on National Signing Day, a U.S. tradition on the first Wednesday in February the U.S. when high school seniors formerly sign scholarship papers binding them to the college of their choice. Reid Tucker (Grade 11) was one of 28 kids chosen from across Canada to play for the national rugby team against the U18 US national team and train in California over the Christmas holidays. The Canadian team players were chosen from a number of tournaments and invitational ID camps that were held since the beginning of summer 2010. The US players were chosen from high schools across United States and their players were one year older and a lot bigger. Canada won the first game and Reid was an instrumental part of the winning try. This helped him earn a starting position for the final game which Canada unfortunately lost in a well-fought match. Reid now has an opportunity to play for Canada in England at an international tournament in early April 2011. This team will be selected from the main Canadian U17 team that traveled to California and an auxiliary team which will tour BC in early February. Congratulations, Reid and we look forward to hearing news of your games in England.
