VC Parents Association

Engaged parents for the betterment of our school

VCPA

Vancouver College is one of the top schools in the province, largely because of the dedication of its faculty and staff and also because of the commitment and hard work of caring parents.  The VCPA plays a key role in building our community and contributes to the betterment of the school.  Last year, we organized many successful events and raised funds used to buy equipment, sponsor events, school teams, and fund bursaries. We encourage all Vancouver College parents, whether returning or new to the school, to fully participate in building our faith and learning community and create a good environment for our sons. The VCPA’s primary role is to: encourage participation (PPP) in school activities by all VC families;  facilitate cooperation and dialogue within the school community; raise funds for “special projects” as determined by the school’s administration (see list of last year’s projects and activities); and promote and assist with charitable activities outside of the school in order for students to put their Catholic faith into action. The VCPA organizes three major fund raising events: Finnegan Ball, Mothers' Christmas Tea, and Mayfair.

Mayfair

Intlfood
Mayfair is one of the major fundraising activities at Vancouver College. It is an old-fashioned spring fair, updated with lots of current activities for everyone to enjoy. This year Mayfair is on Saturday May 14, 2011. Planning starts in the fall and the more parents that get involved the more successful it will be. Mayfair is fun and a great place to volunteer and be part of the Vancouver College community. Mayfair and its success are very important for the school and your kids. We need your help to make Mayfair successful. Please review the Activities Organizational Chart and choose an area wherein you can donate your VC volunteer hours and contact the convener of that specific area. Please be mindful of Dress Down Days and send your donations to Mayfair according to this schedule.

Dress Down Days

As part of Mayfair fundraising efforts, the days below are designated as Casual Dress Days (Dress Down Days). In exchange for bringing a Mayfair donation, boys may wear casual clothes to school on these days. When they drop off their donations in the cafeteria prior to school, boys receive a Finnegan hand stamp that indicates they may be in casual dress. If no Mayfair donation is brought to school, boys should wear their school uniforms.

Parking and Traffic Guidelines

We ask parents to cooperate and follow the school's drop off and pick up guidelines to ensure the safety of all boys at Vancouver College. Parents should not be coming into the staff parking lot at any time to drop off or pick up your sons. We thank you for placing the safety of our boys over personal convenience.

Acquisitions and Donations

Donations are sought from both parents and the community to support activities at Vancouver College throughout the school year. The three major annual fundraising initiatives undertaken by the Parents Association are the Finnegan Ball, the Mothers' Christmas Tea and Mayfair. Without the ongoing generous support of so many donors, the Vancouver College Parent's Association would not be able to meet its fundraising goals each year. Donations may be made at any time, and may be dropped off at the school between 9:00-4:00 Monday to Friday. Donors are requested to complete the attached donation form to ensure acknowledgments and tax receipts are completed.

Parent Participation

In 1996, Vancouver College instituted a mandatory Parent Participation Program.  This program provides structure and support to the large parents’ volunteer program that is a significant factor in maintaining and supporting the Vancouver College community.  Each year, parents contribute more than 32,000 volunteer hours towards fundraising, academic and arts programs, athletics and religious activities.  Each Vancouver College family is asked to volunteer a minimum of 30 hours of participation service per school year.

Login PP Hours

Parents are responsible for recording their volunteer hours earned using the online Parent Participation login site soon after the hours are served. Participation, involvement, and service to the school are the goals of the Parent Participation Program (PPP).  There are many areas in which parents can help (see Immediate Opportunities and  Volunteer Opportunities).  Each Vancouver College family is asked to volunteer a minimum of 30 hours of participation service per school year.  If a family chooses not to fulfill their volunteer hours or does so partially, the PPP coordinator calculates the number of hours served and notifies the school's accounting department who bills the families for the equivalent dollar amount. This money is donated to the Blessed Edmund Rice Bursary Program.

PPP Goodwill Cheques

Very rarely do we have to cash your Parent Participation goodwill cheque post-dated to the end of the school year. When your hours of participation have been completed, this goodwill cheque is destroyed. However, if your volunteer commitment of 30 hours is not fulfilled, the PPP coordinator calculates the number of hours served and notifies the school's accounting department who then bills the family for the equivalent dollar amount. This money is deposited into the Blessed Edmund Rice Bursary Program.
