2018 Irish Review - Fall Edition
New Building, New Beginning - Manrell Hall
Something amazing is happening here! We are all sharing the excitement of starting a new school year with the added joy of experiencing our new building. To be called Manrell Hall, it houses our Middle and Senior School Learning Commons, Learning Assistance and Counselling spaces, Founders Atrium, Dining Hall, and 18 classrooms - 12 for the Middle School and 6 for Elementary students for the next two years while the construction of the Elementary School building is underway.
This fall, we will begin the environmentally-sensitive demolition of our old buildings as we retain the Lannon Hall façade and the beautiful McCormack doorway. These links to our heritage help define the special school that Vancouver College is.

The Alumni Corridor is a walkway that memorializes the journey of our alumni, commemorates the rich tradition of our faith and learning community, and forges a new path for the future of Vancouver College.
Catherine Cleveland, a VC staff, dedicated a paver in memory of her father , E.M. Donald Cleveland.
"My father, E.M. Donald (Don) Cleveland, a proud VC graduate of the Class of 1937, was an introspective man with unshakable faith.
My father left behind a legacy as a man of character and faith. Two of his nephews also attended VC and now I work at VC. I keep my father’s class picture in my office and feel his presence as I walk the halls that he did so many years ago.
The Alumni Corridor paver project is the perfect opportunity to memorialize my father and his journey at VC. A brick paver in the Corridor, with his name and graduation year permanently etched, is a tribute to my dad and a physical representation of his legacy at Vancouver College."
- Catherine Cleveland, VC Staff

Farewell to Two VC Icons
The alumni event on June 23, Farewell to Two VC Icons, had a great turnout! Close to 500 alumni, former and current teachers, family members, and friends attended and walked around the VC heritage buildings one last time. Alumni and families also got a chance to say good-bye to retiring teacher and coach, Mr. Ten Hon Choo, for his 42 years of exemplary service at Vancouver College.
The 11th Annual Alumni Hockey Game
On Saturday, May 5, 2018 we had another successful hockey evening at the Doug Mitchell rink out at UBC. With dwindling registration due to a variety of factors beyond our control, we needed to alter the format of the event from a four team tournament to a single game with two teams. Our good friends at UBC thankfully worked with us and we were able to shuffle our ice times around to accommodate. It all worked out perfectly!
The Inaugural Jim Canil Football Game
The 34th Annual Alumni Football Game (aka the Inaugural Jim Canil Football Game) was a huge success this year with the alumni topping the graduates in a nail biter 20-19. This year we dedicated the game to Mr. Jim Canil and renamed the trophy as the Jim Canil Trophy. Thank you, Mr. Jim Canil, for coming out of retirement for the day and for all your years of commitment to VC football.
The 4th Annual Devenport Cup
The 4th Annual Devenport Cup took place Saturday, May 12, 2018 on sunny O'Hagan Field. We had an excellent turnout this year with 20 players from different graduating classes taking the pitch!
The 12th Annual Alumni Fishing Derby
Although the weather was less than ideal, it did not dampen the spirits of those who came out for the 12th Annual Alumni Fishing Derby held at Salmon Lake Resort just outside of Merritt.
Alexzander Kozikowski hooked his first ever trout at 3 pounds to capture the title and lay claim to “master fisherman” for the day. Alexz is the son of the four-time tournament winner Rob Kozikowski (VC’94) and looks forward to being part of the alumni community upon his graduation from VC…...12 years from now.

May we introduce the founding riders of the VC Alumni Wheelmen: Jonathan Sy (VC‘94), Peter Fahrmann (VC'90), Jason Chiu (VC'95), Grand Yeh (VC'94), and Dominic Toa (VC'95). Even the smoke didn’t stop them from spinning out 40km around Richmond! Interested? Join us on our online platform HERE.
