President's Message

On June 23, over 500 VC alumni came for a last look around Lannon, McCormack, Mackin and Nichols Halls and reconnected with classmates and friends from their days in these historic buildings. Retiring teacher and coach Ten Hon Choo, who served the boys for VC for 42 years, was honoured. Mr. Choo paid tribute to the Christian Brothers for their contribution to the education of the boys and the character of VC. We treasure our history and the legacy of Vancouver College as we focus our school on the future.

Something amazing is happening here! We are all sharing the excitement of starting a new school year with the added joy of experiencing our new building. To be called Manrell Hall, it houses our Middle and Senior School Learning Commons, Learning Assistance and Counselling spaces, Founders Atrium, Dining Hall, and 18 classrooms - 12 for the Middle School and 6 for Elementary students for the next two years while the construction of the Elementary School building is underway.

This fall, we will begin the environmentally-sensitive demolition of our old buildings as we retain the Lannon Hall façade and the beautiful McCormack doorway. These links to our heritage help define the special school that Vancouver College is.

The second phase of the project, to be completed by June 2020 includes a new Elementary School with its own gymnasium, a Chapel, our new Brothers Residence, an office area for VC's administration, and landscaping. These changes signal action on our educational vision - a seismically safe, leading edge learning environment for our boys. This project is setting Vancouver College on a solid foundation for another century of academic, athletic, artistic, social and spiritual development of boys and young men.

Vancouver College is the legacy of the generosity of parents, friends, and supporters since 1922. The boys in Grade 9 today will be our centennial graduating class. For almost one hundred years, everything, every thing on this campus is here because someone gave the funds to provide it for the benefit of the boys. Alumni have a unique opportunity to support Our Next Century campaign through the Alumni Corridor Paver Program.

Your gift will help continue the legacy that is Vancouver College. Thank you for all your support.

Semper Fidelis,

John Nixon (VC'69), President
