Warmest welcome to our new VCAA Co-Presidents!

We are happy to announce that  Mark Reid (VC'86) and Steve Jagger (VC'96) are elected as the new co-presidents of the VCAA!  Mark and Steve have been actively involved in the annual events such as  Alumni and Friends Golf Tournament and the Irish Christmas Luncheon. This year, they  led a team of volunteers to make the 2019 Homecoming bigger, better, and more memorable.   Interestingly, the past alumni group was formed 92 years ago in 1927 from a total of 44 graduates and Mark and Steve's grandfather, James P. O'Hagan, was the President.

As we say hello to a new chapter, we remember and express our sincerest gratitude to Peter Farhmann (VC'90) who served on the VCAA board for 12 years, the last four as the President.  Peter has been  an inspiration to many with his leadership and dedication to the alumni community. Luckily, this is not a good-bye. Peter will continue to be on the executive board as the Communications Coordinator and the  leader of the VC Wheelmen Group.

Many congratulations  to Mark and Steve!

L to R: Anya, Vinny, Nicholas, and Rob Zadra

Rob (VC’88) and Anya Zadra shared their tribute to Anya’s grandfather, John Bede Harrison, Vancouver College graduate of 1933.

“When we heard about the call to support the VC Alumni Corridor, we said yes because my husband and I thought it would be a great way to memorialize my grandfather.

John,  author of the first Canadian book on organic farming and the recipient of the 1987 VC Emerald (now the Hall of Honour) Award,    left a rich legacy of VC graduates  in the family. His  eldest son,  James Harrison (Anya's uncle), attended Vancouver College from the Class of 1965. John's grandsons (Anya's brother and cousins)    also carry the Fighting Irish spirit - Michael Harrison (VC'84), Simon Harrison (VC'92), Chris Harrison (VC'96), Matthew Harrison (VC'00), and Thomas Miller (VC'05). John would be so proud to know that his great-grandsons Vinny Zadra (Grade 11) and Nicholas Zadra (Grade 9) are currently attending Vancouver College."

As alumni, we are the foundation of the College.  Continue your legacy as a Vancouver College graduate and join us in our collective effort to forge the future for our boys by purchasing a paver in the soon to be completed VC Alumni Corridor. Limited quantity available and deadline is fast approaching!

Matthew Esaw (VC'05) with Callum MacBeth (VC'17)

Shortly after graduating from Vancouver College, Callum joined an army reserve unit based out of New Westminster, and in late September 2019 was promoted to the rank of Corporal in the Canadian Armed Forces! VC Faculty  , Matt Esaw (VC'05),    is a member of the  unit  and on the same night was awarded the  Canadian Forces Declaration Medal (CD) for 12+ years of Military service.

Chris Chan (VC'98)

Chris Chan (VC’98) is a screenwriter credited for several TV and film projects including the groundbreaking trilingual crime drama series   Blood and Water  and   On Wings of Eagles,   the 2016 epic drama based on the true story of gold medal runner Eric Liddell and his time as a POW during World War II. Chris recently received the award for Best Screenwriting in a Dramatic Series for his work on    Blood and Water  at the 2019 BC Leo Awards.

2019 Alumni and Friends Golf Tournament

The 46th Annual Vancouver College Golf Tournament at the Marine Drive Golf Club on September 16  was a huge success! Some of the highlights included the golf cannon at the signature hole, hole-in-one to win a car, hit the green for a chance to win the Bushnell Shift Rangefinder, and our inaugural Irish Cocktail Party.

First place went to the foursome of Monika McIsaac , Joe Narodowski (VC'99),   Josef Narodowski, and David Narodowski with a   respectable    -15. Well done, lady and gentlemen!

Many thanks to MC and Auctioneer Angus Reid (VC'94) and to all our guests who supported the event. All proceeds raised from the golf tournament go towards the Vancouver College Bursary Fund Program, which ensures that no boy is denied a VC education due to financial reasons.

"The Irish Stampede Homecoming 2019" - Fighting Irish vs. Mount Douglas

"This was the best and biggest homecoming we've ever been to..."    relayed a VC parent to one of our VCAA executives.

Around 140 alumni from the Class of '94 and ’99 together with their families celebrated their 25th and 20th reunions with a pancake breakfast buffet  before kickoff. Graduates from various years joined in as the celebration continued.  Kids enjoyed the festivities and fun foods while their parents reminisced in the Alumni Beer Garden and    towards the end of the day, many tried their hand at axe throwing sponsored by Shea Emry (VC '04). Students and alumni cheered as the Fighting Irish defeated the Mount Douglas Rams 35-14.   It was a victorious day for the Fighting Irish alumni, families, and friends .

Thank you to everyone who came to Homecoming and we hope to see you again next year!
