Congratulations to Vancouver Province writer and columnist Tony Gallagher (VC '66), who will be inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame as the 2020 media honouree and recipient of the Elmer Ferguson Memorial Award for journalism excellence! Tony is the first Vancouver College Graduate and Vancouver journalist to be inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame for his 45-year career as a sports journalist.
John Smythe (VC'07) was recently featured on the Player's Own Voice podcast, speaking about balancing his time competing with The Canadian National Field Hockey Team, while battling Chron's disease. While Crohn's is chronic, John has managed to keep it in remission, to the extent that he's gearing up fully for the Canadian men's competition in the Tokyo Olympics.
Congratulations to Sean Ryan (VC'19) who, as part of Corpus Christi College's "Rise Up" team, has won a place to represent Canada at the Oxford Global Challenge this June!
During his first year at Corpus Christi, Sean has also been working on another project associated with the Giving Truck Society, which "supports those who are marginalized, vulnerable, and hungry throughout the Lower Mainland."
Rysen John (VC'16) was featured on Global BC after his incredible past few weeks which included being drafted by the Calgary Stampeders and signing as a free agent with the New York Giants! Congratulations on all your success Rysen!
Major Matthew Dukowski (VC'99) was recently featured by the Royal Canadian Air Force for his work as the Air Detachment (Atlantic) Commander for Operation Laser, the Canadian Armed Forces’ response to the novel coronavirus global pandemic.

Aaron Lattimer, a rower for the Canadian National Team with his sights set on the 2020 Olympics, will be one of the athletes honoured at the Delta Sports Hall of Fame gala.

Lawrence attended Vancouver College for his Grade 12 year, and is known as a BC Lions great, helping the team win their first-ever Grey Cup championship in 1964. He ended his career as one of the most prolific receivers in team history, earning a spot on the BC Lions Wall of Fame in 2003. He will be posthumously inducted into the BC Sports Hall of Fame on October 5, 2019.
Shortly after graduating from Vancouver College, Callum joined an army reserve unit based out of New Westminster, and in late September, 2019 was promoted to the rank of Corporal in the Canadian Armed Forces! Teacher Matt Esaw (VC'05) is a member of the same unit and on the same night was awarded the Canadian Forces Declaration Medal (CD) for12+ years of Military service.
An outstanding two-way player at Vancouver College from 1967 to 1968, Giroday attended the University of California at Berkeley where he was a two-sport athlete in football and boxing. In fact, he was an NCAA boxing champion! Later, he went on to play for the B.C. Lions as a linebacker and a special teams player from 1975 to 1978. He will be inducted into the BC Football Hall of Fame on October 5, 2019.
If you were watching the NFL kick off, you may have seen Christian Covington start his first season with the Dallas Cowboys. Christian is one of 10 Canadians who made NFL rosters on the opening weekend of the league's 100th season!
Daniel starred as Davey (far left) this summer's Theatre Under The Stars production of Newsies! Daniel was in three VC musicals during his time at the school and in his graduating year played the role of Jesus in Godspell. He is now pursuing a career in the performing arts, while teaching in Coquitlam.
