Alex Abundo (VC’11)

Alex Abundo (VC’11) is a Clinic Director and Physiotherapist at Myodetox, a multidisciplinary Healthcare Clinic composed of Physiotherapists, Chiropractors and Registered Massage Therapists. Prior to joining Myodetox, Alex worked in the Orthopaedics, Surgery and Medicine wards at Vancouver General Hospital and later specialized in Sports and Orthopaedics at a private practice, where he sees patients ranging from athletes to those who had gone through surgery.

At Myodetox, Alex connects with leaders in the community to better strategize and manage the clinic as a business. He also provides mentorship to his team and continues to practice as a physiotherapist.

“It is truly a privilege to walk with patients throughout their rehab journey and help them reach their goals, whether it be running a marathon or as simple as living pain-free. There is never a dull moment.”

As a VC alumnus, Alex fondly recalls the Operation Helping Hands trip to New Orleans in 2011, where the team rebuilt homes for victims of Hurricane Katrina. It was a humbling experience that gave him the opportunity to explore a different culture, meet new people, and deepen the friendships he had with his peers.

"For those interested in becoming a physiotherapist, I recommend    gaining exposure through volunteering, shadowing, and doing clinical research. The field of physiotherapy is constantly evolving, so it is important to stay on top of current research to better serve the patients. Having business acumen would open more doors as you can choose to run a clinic. It’s hard work, but seeing your patients get closer to their goals gives you this joy that makes it all worth it."
