Roberto Abraham (VC'83)

Prof.  Roberto Abraham (VC'83) is Chair of the David A. Dunlap Department of Astronomy and Astrophysics at the University of Toronto. He is the Co-Principal Investigator of the world's largest all-lens telescope, the  Dragonfly Telephoto Array Project.

Prof. Abraham joined the University of Toronto in 2000 after his  post-doctoral work at the Dominion Astrophysical Observatory and at Cambridge University. He has received several national awards,  served on the Board of Directors of major international observatories, and has advised NASA in various capacities.

He knew from age 12 that he wanted to study Astrophysics.  Challenges were not showstoppers, but things he needed to navigate around in order to reach his goals. He has seen many qualified people give up on academic careers  because life got in the way. Part of his mission is to create lasting structures in his department  to help people live up to their full potential.

"Listen carefully to others, but in the end heed only yourself, because others may have yesterday's advice."
