Alumni Football Game

After a two year hiatus, the 36^th Annual Alumni Football Game took place as the rain stopped last weekend at Mayfair. It was once again Team Alumni versus Team Gr. 12s. The alumni had an early lead and won the game 38-20, taking home the Jim Canil Trophy. A big thank you to all who participated, and special shout-out to Wayne Steele and Ken McKinnon for officiating the game.

We look forward to having our alumni football players again next year!

32nd Annual Alumni Football Game

Thank you to all those who supported the 32nd annual Alumni Football Game at Mayfair which drew a record crowd.

Grade 12's were led by Chris Andrews as QB, Aidan Fay who made a few key catches, and Edward Soriano who showed off his youthful speed and athleticism moving the ball on the ground.

First year taking over as QB for the Alumni team was Ryan Shams (’07), who connected with Varsity football coaches Daniel Laventure (’12) and Jon Chan (’10) to drive the ball down the field.

Although the alumni team led 12-6 in the first half, two key turnovers in the second put the Grade 12's up as they cruised to a 28-24 victory to end the game.

Thank you to all the players that participated and for the endless support of the fans!

2017

33rd ANNUAL ALUMNI FOOTBALL GAME

The 33rd Annual Alumni Football game was a huge success this year with the Alumni topping the graduates 24-13!

Over 40 players took part, and the weather was perfect for the match. It was a back and forth game, but in the end, the Alumni held off the Grads for the win.

Special thanks to the Referees, announcers and of course Mr. Canil in his final year. We wish you the best in your well-deserved retirement and welcome you as Alumni.

2018

34th Annual Alumni Football Game

(Inaugural Jim Canil Football Game)

The 34th Annual Alumni Football Game (aka the Inaugural Jim Canil Football Game) was a huge success this year with the alumni topping the graduates in a nail biter 20-19. The weather was perfect for the match and over 34 players took part. It was a back and forth game, but in the end, the alumni held off the grads for the win. Special thanks to the referees, announcers, and alumni teachers for helping out again. This year we dedicated the game to Mr. Jim Canil and renamed the trophy as the Jim Canil Trophy. Thank you, Mr. Jim Canil, for coming out of retirement for the day and for all your years of commitment to VC football.

2019

The 35^th Vancouver College Alumni Football Game took place at Mayfair on May 11, 2019. The Seniors got away to a quick lead this year. The game was a real nailbiter until the last play of the game when the Alumni pulled ahead for the win. The game ended 41-40 for the Alumni which matches the 2004 game and only third in total points behind the 2012 game at 51-26 and the record year of 2005 at 55-40 . Jim Canil came back to VC and presented the Jim Canil Trophy to the victorious squad. Thank you to all the players and Mr. Jim Canil!
